A Curious Coincidence (COMMISSION)

 I was commissioned by yet another Usagi Fan! I feel downright spoiled getting to do so much fanart of this series.

For those not in the know, let me explain who the characters are, and what is going on. On the right, you see Zato-Ino, the blind swordspig (a parody of Zatoichi the blind swordsman), who appeared early in Usagi's 30+ year run in the comics. There, he was a wanted man who really just wanted peace and quiet, but every time bounty hunters came for his head, he'd end up killing them all, only constantly increasing his bounty in a seemingly enverending cycle of violence. Eventually, Zato-Ino found love and settled in a quiet farmer's village, where he also had a child, and he has not been seen in the comics for decades since.

The small fellow to the left in the Geta-sandals is Inspector Ishida, who was introduced much later. He's a criminal investigator appointed by the Shogun, and a true hound for justice. Your social status, be you a lord or a beggar, means nothing to him in his quest to serve justice to everybody, and he will follow the laws of the land even if he disagrees with them (it's hard to investigate a homicide when you're not allowed to check the body, for instance).

The two have never met in-canon, so I was asked to imagine what a first meeting between them would be like. The idea here is that Ishida has sat down for lunch in the middle of a murder investigation... where he spots Zato-Ino, for one reason or another currently in the city. WHile Ishida recognizes him, he is not one to go straight for the accusation... but he definitely notes his presence.

And the waitress in the middle? She's just kinda there for comedic effect, I admit. Sharp-eyed watchers may realize that I have used her before in a different drawing. I just liked how her design turned out. Probably not the last you see of her.
